"Minor illnesses or injuries are offered an appointment within 3 days. Same-day appointments may be available." - NEVER been the case when I have visited their appointments page.

I can honestly not stand Ambrose Health Center (UHCS). Since 2014-2015, I've been denied service 5 of the 6 times I've gone, or called, there without an appointment. The most recent of which being Monday, Feb 22nd. The only time I was admitted was when I was so sick, I should've gone to the emergency room right away instead... And I ended up going there anyways because they couldn't provide any of the services I needed at Ambrose. Why don't I schedule an appointment? Two reasons, I don't have the future-telling ability to tell when I'm going to get sick, and the earliest I can ever schedule one if I get sick late the previous week, or over the weekend, is the next Friday. Something about waiting an extra 4 days just to be seen is a crime. Especially when they claim on their site:

And sure, if it's bad enough, I've covered the cost of going to urgent care, but some times I haven't. Why? Because either I can't go because hours are impossible to meet. Or I can't physically drive there because I'm too dizzy to move. But I'm not gonna call an ambulance to bust down my dorm room door just because I'm dizzy, have a migraine, and threw up a few times.

or

Everyone working at UCHS is incredibly kind and warm. I've had to go a few times during the year, and each time I've been seen without a hassle. Every appointment was quick and painless, and I was treated with a lot of respect. I was even given a "get well soon" care package on the way out. This is honestly one of the the best parts of being a student at UW-W.

This place is very hit or miss. If you have anything worse then strep they usually cannot do anything for you. They have also told me I was healthy several times and then I go to a real doctor and it turns out I was actually sick. The reason they still get 4 stars from me is that they offer free STD testing and have great free counseling services. I would not recommend going there with any illness.

"I am always able to get an appointment in a timely manner... I choose UHCS over any other place every time." - UW-W student

Not to mention, I'm fairly busy most days of the week with, you know, what I'm going here for, SCHOOL. When I only have one day a week where I am available to see someone, I shouldn't have to suffer and miss 2+ classes just because I got sick too late to schedule out that far in advance, or suffer for most of (or a whole) week. Let alone my only other option, be forced to drive to an off-campus urgent care only open from 5-9pm on weekdays, or if I make the mistake of getting sicker throughout the day (after 9pm) or a weekend, I guess I'm driving my happy little self: 30 minutes to Edgerton, 35 minutes to Janesville, or over 35 minutes to Lake Geneva for the only 24-hr urgent cares nearby.

So moral of this story is: better hope you don't get sick on campus all school year... Or if you do, either have ESP and schedule an appointment a week in advance, or don't be sick any less than 2 weeks for exams. 1 week to get an appointment, and another week to actually get meds and start improving health. Oh, and don't even bother trying to call for over-the-phone medical advice, you won't get any because apparently their physicians and nurse practitioners are "too busy" to take 5 seconds out of their 6 1/2 - 7 hour workdays to answer a simple question. I can confidently say I will be taking my chances driving somewhere else when I'm completely unable to see or focus clearly, than even ATTEMPTING to go to UHCS/Ambrose again. It's a waste of time and resources that I could be using to try and get elsewhere that will actually help me.
